With great excitement and enthusiasm, we wish to announce that the Linking Education and Practice for Excellence in Public Health Nursing Project has been awarded a HRSA three year continuation grant! The progress made by 'LEAPs' and bounds has brought about this wonderful opportunity, and it is thanks to the dedication, effort and collaboration of academic and practice partners throughout Wisconsin. The continuation grant extends the LEAP Project through June 30, 2012. As LEAP marches on, we look forward to building on our successes and expanding academic/practice partnerships in community and public health nursing. Please join us in celebrating this exciting news as we move forward together on behalf of public health nursing education and practice!
- Derryl Block Receives 2009 ACHNE Outstanding Service Award. At the Annual Institute held in Chicago, Derryl Block, PhD, MPH, MSN was presented the "Association of Community Health Nursing Educators 2009 Outstanding Service Award," in recognition of her service to the organization & promotion of quality community/public health nursing education to improve the health of communities & populations. Dr. Block has been involved with public health & nursing education for her entire career & is a long time advocate for public health nursing practice. She is currently the Dean of the College of Graduate & Professional Studies, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. She has published numerous manuscripts on public health nursing, and was also the 2007 recipient of the Lillian Wald Service Award from the American Public Health Association. The LEAP Project congratulates Dr. Block for her prestigious awards & many contributions to public health nursing!

Janet Zoellner, MS, RN, Public Health Nurse Supervisor for Rock County, discusses the importance of implementing orientation strategies tailored to meet the needs of the new "Generation X" workforce. She shares her experience with some successful new staff orientation and retention strategies that will foster positive workplace morale.
