Curriculum and Degree Requirements
Students applying for the MS/MPH (Nursing) Dual Degree Program
concurrently submit applications to both the School of Nursing and
the Medical School (Department of Population Health). Students should
indicate their interest in the dual degree program in both applications.
Admissions criteria for both programs must be met in order for students
to be accepted in the dual degree program. Admission decisions are
made by the School of Nursing Graduate Programs Committee Admissions
Sub-Committee and the Admissions Committee of the MPH Program.
Admissions
Criteria for MS Program
- Graduation from a baccalaureate program in nursing;
- Licensure as a professional nurse;
- One year of professional nursing experience is recommended;
- Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher on the last 60 credits of
the most recent baccalaureate degree;
- College-level statistics course completed within five years
of admission;
- Satisfactory scores on the Graduate
Record Examination (GRE) taken within the last five years.
The GRE general exam is a Computer-Based Testing (CBT) program
offered year round throughout the U.S. and abroad. For test application

- International students only: Official TOEFL
(Test of English as a Foreign Language) or MELAB
(Michigan English Language Assessment Battery) scores with a minimum
TOEFL score of 550 for the paper-based test or 213 for the computer-based
test or a MELAB score of 82 is required. For up to date information

Admissions Criteria for MPH
Program
- Baccalaureate degree and a minimum of 2 years full-time post-baccalaureate
health-related experience. The experience requirement may be waived
for students applying for the MPH dual degree programs or applicants
with a doctoral degree.
- Official transcripts form all college and graduate work. Undergraduate
GPA of 3.0 or higher is expected.
- Successful completion (B- or better) of one semester of college-level
biology and algebra.
- GRE, MCAT, LSAT, or GMAT scores from tests taken within the
last 5 years. This requirement may be waived for applicants with
a doctoral degree.
- Applicants from countries where English is not the primary language
must submit official scores from the TOEFL. A minimum TOEFL score
of 237 on the computer-based test or 580 on the paper-based test
is required to demonstrate English language proficiency.
