Mission
University of Wisconsin-Madison Continuing Education in Nursing has been a provider of continuing education for nurses since 1955. Our mission is to improve human health by advancing learning through innovative outreach and continuing educational programming.
Scholarships
Scholarships are available from the School of Nursing
Continuing Education fund for enrollees on a first-come, first-served
basis. The aim of the
scholarship fund is to help nurses who must pay their own way to conferences.
Scholarship assistance is for half the cost of our conference tuition.
We ask that you apply for funding only once in a calendar year; so that other people have a chance
to receive assistance. Scholarship applications will be taken via
telephone. For further information and/or to receive an application, call
(608) 262-0049.
Partnerships and Co-Sponsorships
The University of Wisconsin-Madison Continuing Education in Nursing
welcomes inquiries about co-development of educational programs,
resources, and materials that promote the mission of the department.
Send your inquiry to LeaRae Galarowicz by email lbgalaro@wisc.edu or phone (608) 262-1179.
CEUs, Contact Hours, and Transcripts
The Continuing Education Unit (CEU) was established by a National Task
Force representing several adult education associations, as a means
of measurement for non-credit educational activities. It is defined
as:
-
A specific, standard measure [ten (10) clock hours] of educational
achievement used by many universities and professional organizations
under the criteria of the International Association for Continuing
Education and Training (IACET) to attest to clock hour completion
of continuing education activities.
The Contact Hour is defined by the Amercian Nurses Credentialing Center as:
- "...a unit of measurement that describes 60 minutes
of an organized learning activity that is either a didactic or clinical
experience."
The Contact Hour and CEU do not provide credit toward an academic degree.
Nurses who wish to enroll for course work carrying formal academic
credit should contact a degree-granting school for nursing.
University of Wisconsin-Madison Continuing Education in Nursing awards
Contact Hours and CEUs for educational offerings that it sponsors
and only when course requirements have been met. Enrollees receive
a certificate of successful completion of an educational activity
either at the end of the program or by mail several weeks after
the course.
The transcript is a cumulative, permanent record identifying all
the courses and the respective number of CEUs earned by individual
students. The Student Records Office at the Pyle Center maintains
a file for all individuals who have taken continuing education courses
through UW-Madison.
To request a copy of your transcript send your name,
address and identification number (Social Security number, unless
you have specified otherwise), plus $4.00 per copy to:
Student Records Office
University of Wisconsin-Pyle Center
702 Langdon Street
Madison, WI 53706
The award of Contact Hours/CEUs by any institution, organization or agency does not assure that the course will be automatically accepted by a regulatory body. That decision will be made by the specific organization requiring continuing education for re-licensure.
