Purpose: The purpose of this module is to relate the differences between breast cancer screening and diagnostic tests and highlight risk management issues. It also addresses holistic and tailored approaches for working with diverse patients and concerns.
Audience: Primary care providers who perform breast cancer screenings.
Objectives: Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
- Review the differences between breast cancer screening and diagnostic tests for breast cancer.
- Clarify Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BIRADS) terminology and implications.
- Tailor approaches to breast cancer screening in women who are reluctant to get screened.
- Discuss a holistic approach to conveying abnormal results with attention to psychosocial implications.
- Apply current screening recommendations and a tailoring process to cases representing a diversity of women.
- Highlight issues pertinent to risk management for primary providers in cases of breast concerns.
