Description of Research Focus:

The primary focus of my research has been to clarify the models, mechanisms, and contexts of smoking cessation and relapse and to develop and test tobacco control interventions for pregnant women and their families. I have completed three smoking cessation intervention studies with pregnant women. I have been a collaborating investigator on two large qualitative studies, women living with HIV and research ethics for families of children with chronic illnesses. I am currently conducting a pilot study of a smoking relapse-prevention intervention, a descriptive study of women’s sensory changes to tobacco smoke upon becoming pregnant, and am co-investigator on a large clinical trial of the use of nicotine replacement therapy for smoking cessation among pregnant women.
