Description of Research Focus:

Dr. Audrey Tluczek’s program of research blends her experience as an advanced practice nurse working with families who have children with chronic health problems, such as cystic fibrosis, and her expertise as a psychologist addressing the mental health needs of infants, young children, and their families. Specifically, her current NICHD-funded protocol examines how the application of genetic technology to newborn screening affects parents, their infants, and the quality of parent-infant relationships. Dr. Tluczek is interested in understanding the interactions of the multiple contexts of childhood chronic illness including child development, family dynamics, and socio-cultural milieus.  Her work aims to develop family-centered interventions at specific junctures in trajectories of these
contexts to optimize outcomes for children and their families.
