Description of Research Focus:
My research focuses on human stress responses to health-related problems. Currently, I am Vice Chair of the Council of Cardiovascular Nursing in the American Heart Association, so it is not surprising that my recent work focuses on patients with cardiopulmonary problems. The following are some examples of some of my research topics: stress, circadian rhythms, pain, quality of life, and functional status. My investigations have been conducted on patients who have undergone AICD, CABG, heart transplant, and lung transplant procedures. Currently, I am in the fourth year of a 5-year NIH funded project aimed at identifying physiological and psychological predictors of quality of life of lung transplant patients.
