Description of Research Focus:
The goal of my research program is to define the relationship between resource utilization and the clinical and fiscal outcomes of patient care. This is accomplished within a framework of microeconomic theory using such analyses as cost-benefit, cost-effectiveness, cost-minimization, cost-utility and willingness to pay methodologies. The dual faceted approach of clinical and fiscal outcomes measurement makes the work relevant to health care providers and policy makers. A major focus of my work is the impact of managed care on patient outcomes and nursing practice.
This research is multidisciplinary in nature and includes the construction of studies that cross the continuum of care settings: inpatient, ambulatory, and home health services.
