Nurse Educators for Tomorrow (NET) Project

Advanced Practice Nurse Educator Option

The NET Project is an innovative option to prepare advanced practice nurse educators via online courses and academic community partnerships.  Funded through a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), NET is designed for nurses who are committed to being both nurse educators and medical-surgical clinical nurse speciaIist or nurse educators and pediatric nurse practitioners

The goal of the training project is to address the shortage of nursing faculty as well as to increase the number of practicing health professionals in underserved areas.

Key Elements:

  • The option is offered as part of the MS program in nursing at UW-Madison.
  • Courses are available online. (Computer requirements)
  • Clinical and teaching practicums are arranged for students in or near their community through well-established academic community partnerships.
  • The nursing education component addresses conventional as well as new pedagogies.
  • Opportunities to utilize emerging technologies are provided in both the clinical practice and education components.
  • Graduates prepare for clinical teaching positions in university and technical college nursing programs.  They will also be eligible for national certification through the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and reimbursable professional practice.
