Susan K. Riesch Susan Riesch's research program aims to prevent children’s participation in health risk behavior by providing developmentally appropriate, family focused, theory-based interventions to families in the community; particularly during times of transition. Professor Riesch studies interventions to promote open communication and family satisfaction, the topics that stimulate conflict, and strategies for conflict management among families with young or pre-adolescents. Developmental theory, attachment theory, and the Circumplex Model underpin the research. She uses quantitative approaches with emphasis on descriptive and intervention methods. Her research group is examining parent-child communication processes and interventions to reduce children’s involvement in health risk behaviors. Professor Riesch is also involved in the National Children's Study; a 21 year long study of environmental effects on child development.
