The following information is designed to provide information to students regarding enrollment for the following semester.  Students are encouraged to see their advisors as soon as possible to plan their program of study and also to enroll early paying particular attention to enrolling for the correct sections and the number of credits when courses are offered for variable credits.  The Graduate School has become very selective in approving late enrollment and course change requests.

Enrollment Dates

Graduate students can begin to enroll for Summer Session 2008 courses beginning Monday, March 31st and then the following Monday, April 7th for Fall 2008 courses.  Additional enrollment information is available on the Office of the Registrar’s web site (http://registrar.wisc.edu/students/reg_enrlmnt), including an online timetable. Please note: changes in classes, times and room assignments can occur without advanced notice, so be sure to recheck the online Timetable prior to the first day of class for the most up-to-date information.

Web Enrollment

To enroll, students will login into their MY UW Portal (http://my.wisc.edu) using your NetID and password. Once student have access the portal then they can go to the Student Center to complete their enrollment activities.

Prior to enrolling for classes, it is recommended that students check their enrollment holds located in the Student Center module of their MY UW Portal.  Some holds may block students from enrolling; review the information provided.

CNS and Nurse Educator Clinical Experiences - N606 & N719

What course should students take?  Students preparing to be clinical nurse specialists enroll in the newly developed course N606 Advanced Practicum for the Clinical Nurse Specialist.  The proposal for this course is being reviewed by a campus committee.  We expect the course will be available for enrollment in mid-April.  N606 students will be notified who to contact for their clinical set up at a later date this spring.  For enrollment use the same authorization process detailed above.

N719 is the required clinical course for students preparing as nurse educators.  It is individually arranged with the help of the student’s graduate advisor.  Again for enrollment use the same authorization process detailed above.

In our experience, arranging a clinical takes longer than expected, so plan early!  In addition, the School of Nursing must notify the clinical agency before the start of the semester.  Arrangements for a clinical experience must be finalized at least 4 weeks prior to the start of the semester.  For summer, this means the first week of May.  For fall, it would be the first week of August.

NP Clinical Courses N613, N614, N615, N616

A faculty member for each nurse practitioner specialty area will submit a list of eligible students for N613-N616 sections to Academic Programs Staff.  From this list, Academic Programs will process those students for the appropriate course and section; acute 010, adult 020 or 021 or 022, geriatric 030, pediatric 040 or 041, women's health 050, or psychiatric 060.

  • Students must submit written documentation showing compliance with the tuberculosis requirement, the completed Hepatitis B titre and current Wisconsin licensure to the Academic Programs Office prior to receiving the authorization email to enroll.  Contact Donna Haack at dmhaack@wisc.edu regarding questions on compliance with health documentation.
  • Students will be notified of their specific assigned clinical course after the enrollment period has begun so students should go ahead and enroll in all other needed coursework while awaiting their clinical assignment. Students will be notified by email with the class number they will use to enroll for the appropriate course/section.
